Robert Scholten creates street art, graffiti art, murals, paintings, illustrations, and fine art prints.
"Each work is like a song that I write about the world. Each has my own personal rhythm injected into it."
Robert Scholten draws upon the world around him, converting everyday experiences into art. He freely draws upon a range of imagination, memory, emotion and experience, with his artworks acting as a meeting place.
As an Australian artist with a Filipino/Dutch heritage, these works are informed by his own background, travels and experiences.
Though each work has a strong autobiographical quality, Robert also creates a positive impact in the world. He imbues them with positive messages, and his art possesses an exuberant use of colours and patterns, inviting the audienceto share his creative joy.
Robert is fascinated by aged surfaces with a lot of layers, such as textured walls with graffiti or stained streets with tyre marks.
He takes a similar approach towards his work. Robert draws upon a personal store of imagery and layers them in each piece, using a range of media and recycled materials in order to express his ideas. Like the walls, these works evolve organically with no plan, so that narratives and dialogues spontaneously emerge during the process.
Robert was born in 1981, in Melbourne, Australia. He studied Graphic Design at Swinburne TAFE and Masters Fine Art at RMIT. He has been involved in several art projects and exhibitions in Australia, Vietnam, Philippines, Laos, Thailand, Netherlands, USA, Japan and India.
